Mountain
training is an important part of both the PPL and CPL syllabus. It combines
performance takeoffs and landings, low flying, confined area operations,
and meteorology. Mountain operations inevitably involve reduced aircraft
performance, requiring additional focus on both airmanship and human factors.
This is a challenging and rewarding part of your training. For the PPL course we'll head to some local mountainous terrain areas which are within a half hour transit from our Ardmore base. You'll fly amongst ridges and valleys learning to predict windflow and utilise flight techniques that maximise available aircraft performance. If you're a CPL student we'll plan a long cross country south to take us into higher mountainous areas. This can be done on a day trip or an adventure week, depending on your requirements. You'll learn about ridge and pinnacle operations at high altitude as well as experiencing advanced low level and confined area operations. |
